Posture Correction

Forward Head Posture ("Tech Neck") in Salt Lake City

Is your head jutting forward? "Tech Neck" causes severe neck pain, headaches, and early arthritis. We use advanced structural rehabilitation to correct forward head posture at our Murray clinic.

    The Bowling Ball Effect

Your head weighs roughly the same as a bowling ball (10 to 12 pounds). When your head is perfectly balanced over your shoulders, your cervical spine handles this weight effortlessly.

However, due to looking down at phones and computers—often referred to as Tech Neck—many people lose the natural curve of their neck. For every single inch your head moves forward from its center of gravity, it adds 10 extra pounds of stress to the muscles and discs of your neck. If your head is 3 inches forward, your neck muscles are straining to hold up a 40-pound bowling ball all day long. This leads to profound posture abnormalities, chronic fatigue, chronic tension headaches, and intense neck pain. Over time, this unremitting pressure can even cause cervical disc herniations.

    Our CBP Correction Protocol

Telling someone to "sit up straight" doesn't work. The ligaments of the neck have physically remodeled to the bad posture. At Comprehensive Chiropractic Clinic, we use Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) to literally reshape the neck:

    • Cervical Extension TractionThe most critical step. We use specific traction devices (like the Denneroll or in-office traction units) to stretch the shortened ligaments and bend the spine back into its healthy "C" shape.
    • Mirror Image AdjustmentsWe adjust the spine in the opposite direction of the poor posture to retrain the nervous system.
    • Postural StabilizationWe strengthen the deep neck flexors through postural stabilization exercises to hold the new alignment permanently.

Clinical Results: Reversing Forward Head Posture

By applying specific cervical extension traction, we can physically remodel the ligaments of the neck to restore the natural "C" curve (lordosis). Below is a real patient X-ray showing the correction of severe forward head posture back toward the normal healthy alignment (green line).

    Lateral Cervical (Neck) Correction

Notice the significant reduction in forward head translation (the distance from the shoulders) and the restoration of the curve, relieving immense pressure from the spinal cord and discs.
